Q4 a) - Who is My Audience?

My audience also fit into the psychographics of being explorers, as they always enjoy news experiences and learning new things. As they are young, these new experiences of socialising with friends etc give them new skills that they can take on for further skills in later life. Another psychographic label they have is of an Aspirer - to do well in exams etc.

The demographics  to define my audience cannot really be done as it mainly targets the adult population largely by what work they do. As most of my audience will still be in education, some may only be starting out in jobs therefore will not really have a high label in demographics. Therefore they'll be an 'E' - unemployed.

Q4 b) - Script

This is Nadia. She’s 16 years old and goes to college in Tower Hamlets. When Nadia finishes college in Tower Hamlets, she stays in college and finishes off her homework. If she’s not doing homework, she has revision sessions with her friends to revise for her subjects like English, History and Health and Social. When Nadia and her friends who are Muslim are done, they make their way towards the exit of the college however as Nadia is a sociable person, her friends appear from everywhere. Nadia loves subway and her favourite food is the Italian BMT so she is always going to get food from there. However Nadia also loves spending time with her friends from other colleges and catching up with the latest gossip with them. They catch up what they’ve missed from the weekend together. As well as this, Nadia loves spending quality time with her boyfriend Hasan, who is also 17. However both Hasan and Nadia prefer to be in the park listening to Tweenz FM on their phones whilst they relax and chill out together with the rest of their friends. They can forget the exam stress just for the moment. On her way home, Nadia reflects on the amazing day she has with all her friends and hopes she gets to see them all soon again.

P15 - My Script for Newscast

Young blind people in east London are calling for greater access to leisure centres.
The Royal Society for the Blind (RSB) has launched a campaign to raise public awareness of blind people’s need to exercise and keep fit.

Our Sports and Fitness reporter Nishat Khan has the story.

We hear more in this report by Nishat Khan.

In Tower Hamlets, there are roughly 370 young people with a disability and 25% are blind
RSB’s Joy _____ , who is herself blind, is campaigning across the capital to have gyms put facilities in place to enable blind users.

She told Tweenz FM News that the challenges blind people face at fitness centres include equipment strewn on floors; no access ramps and unsafe dressing rooms and showers.
I visited eight east end gyms and found that only two had facilities in place to support the blind. One of them was the Fitness First Leyton.

Gym Manager said ….

Gym enthusiast, 20 year-old Riyaz has been blind since birth.
I spoke with him about the challenges he faces at his local gym, among other matters.

Improvements Made:
As we were making our radio newscast, I found that some of the script did not fit or flow properly within the newscast therefore improvements and amendments were made.

P14 - Interview with Leytonstone Fitness First

The information I recieved from Mile End Stadium wasn't really beneficial or clear about whether they had facilities and what kind they had, therefore I went to visit another gym to get their opinion. This is what information I got back from them when I went to go interview them.

P13 - Interview with Mile End Stadium

As the opposition side to my story, I went to Mile End Stadium to see if I could ask the manager about the facilities they provide for young disabled people. Unfortunately, the manager had not arrived yet and due to short timing, I had to get back to school. I then decided to ask second best and went to the gym complex. In there, I found a worker and fitness instructor and asked her what they had. I asked if she had facilities for disabled people and what were the kind of memberships they offered and this was what she said:

P12 b) - Interview with Riyaz

As part of my radio news cast, i will have two interviews. The first interview is with a young man named Riyaz who is visually blind but still uses the health facilities. What I find really inspiring is how he initially started and his experiences as well as how confidently/openly he can talk about it. Hopefully this can give the audience help not only on doing it themselves but inspire them to push the limit and show people they can do what people don't think they can.

I asked 4 questions:
1. What made you want to start going gym?
2. What was your experience like as a blind person?
3. To what extent do you think the struggle for a person with a disability has to find leisurely activities they can enjoy compared to a person who doesnt?
4. What more can gyms do and other organisations to accompany blind people?

P12 a) - Getting In Contact With a Blind Person

The person I am going to use for the first part of my news story is a man named Riyaz, He is a young person with a disablity (blind) and regularly visits the gym and trains. Interviewing him would be beneficial for my newscast as he may inspire young people, like myself and show them that setbacks like having a disability does not have to stop you from doing what you want to do. With a little help and courage, you can achieve just as much, if not more.

I got in contact with him via email and requested a telephone interview.

He accepted and set an interview. It was more easier to speak to him conversation wise than i had expected as he was very friendly and open about his experiences. He spoke very personally which allowed me to get good information for my news story as well as learn new things which was a really nice experiences. I believe that he will have a very large influence on our target audience, especially because they are young adults. From our research we found out that many of the male audiences like hearing about sports and health as they may like going to gym to get fit. And for the females, this links to human interest therefore will be intrigued to know that a blind person can do the same as stereotypical abled boys. This could also help those with a disability who may not necessarily be blind but with a different illness.
